The good and relatively above board venues don't have to do this.
The ones that do are going to rob you, and they won't be content with small change.

Shoreditch is indeed the best place to go. It's just outside the city of London so is run by a different county council so has different rules and regulations. The above advice and suggestions are good.
It's also home to a few good and very reasonable restaurants. London strip shows followed my nose and found a couple of great Vietnamese restaurants just be here. Browns has been entertaining the City Traders for decades.
Well you're in London so everything is going to be very tame. As per the above, avoid Sohothat place is great for pubs and restaurants but not live shows.

Very expensive, the pubs a bit of fun but somewtimes a bit 'grubby' too. All very boring IMO. AmsterdamBudapest or Prague a short air hop away and have more liberal ideas.
Amsterdfm still the best for a 'stag type' experience. Brown's is known for its lunchtime shows.
